The founding contributors to the Software History Center were:

Computer Associates International
David A. Duffield
Burton Grad
The Imlay Foundation
Joseph A. Piscopo
Lawrence J. Schoenberg
Sam Wyly

We are deeply grateful for their support and the support of many others which funded numerous projects by the Software History Center. The Software History Center was formed by Luanne Johnson and Burton Grad as a 501 c (3) corporation in 2000 and was merged into the Computer History Museum in 2005. It was one of the predecessors to the Software Industry Special Interest Group.

The other predecessor was the Information Technology Corporate Histories Project which was initiated by the Charles Babbage Foundation (of which Luanne Johnson was president at the time) in 2004 with a grant from the Sloan Foundation. This project ran from May 2004 through December 2006 with Luanne Johnson as the Principal Investigator. Administrative responsibility for the project was shifted to the Computer History Museum in 2005 and the Museum will provide ongoing availability for the information collected during this project.
