First Person Essays

The Software Industry Special Interest Group invites everyone who has a story to tell about significant systems and applications in which he/she was involved to submit a First Person Essay about his or her experiences to preserve that information for the historical record.

We’re looking for informal descriptions giving some background on the event (or product or program) and how you became active in it. We’re not looking for a detailed technological description, but rather the application, marketing, business and technical highlights which made the experience memorable to you. For instance, you might want to note how the project came about, how it was organized and staffed, what hardware and software were used, its relationship with other projects and its significance and usage.

We’re interested in a broad range of topics including stories about publishing, conferences, financing of companies, consulting experiences and any stories that will help others better understand how the software industry grew and became such an important part of our daily lives.

If you would like to submit an essay for our collection, please send an email to bobpatrick@mac.com describing what you would like to cover.
